Happy Fourth of July!

by CajunKate

So the Zandinator and I ended up having a very relaxed and awesome Independence Day. We didn't really have any plans, so we sat around on our lazy a**es in the A.C. for most of the day. Which I believe is patriotic in and of itself. But that might just be me.

Around 3 PM, we decided to go to a movie. We saw
Year One. I wanted to see Public Enemies (vetoed by Zandy for Johnny Depp and length) or The Proposal (vetoed by Zandy for being a chick flick), so we agreed on Year One. And by agreed upon, I mean that I was promised popcorn, a Diet Coke, and more A.C. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I even laughed out loud at some parts.

After the movie, Zandy suggested we get sushi. I am always up for that! We went to Shinto Sushi. This was a new place for us suggested by Greg and Clelie. I ordered a Sapporo. Yes, I drank a Japanese beer brewed and bottled in Canada on the birthday of our nation. Yay, America! We ordered five rolls. A server, not ours, brought over a plate with two rolls on it and said the names of them in a really low and heavily accented manner. I looked at Alex and said, "Which ones are these?" We spent a few minutes trying to figure it out, then gave up and dug in. A short while later, the same server brought over a platter of five rolls. And I said, "Uh...something's wrong. We only ordered five rolls, and we already had two." At that moment our server came up, and it was deduced that those first two rolls? Yeah, the ones we basically devoured? Uh, those were for another table! Whoopsie! But hey, we got free sushi! Yay, America!

After Sushi, we came back to the house, and Zandy asked me if I would like to go see the fireworks downtown. WOULD I?!?!? This was not a chance to be passed up since Zandy is not known for his love of crowds and uh, you know, ...people. We even went early so he could take me to Jefferson Street Pub for a couple of drinks. What a great husband! Yay, America!

At about 9:45 pm, we headed over to Parc San Souci to get a good viewing spot. The Acadiana Symphony was just finishing up when we arrived so we got to hear their last song. They were awesome. Next year, I want to go see their whole set. Anyway, the fireworks started right on time. The staging area was the top of the parking tower next to the park. Uhhhh, is that safe? Whatever. Nothing caught fire. Although, we did have to move because, due to where we were standing originally and the wind direction, I caught some fiery debris in my left eye. Who do I sue? Yay, America!

The display was short but very fun. It was more than I expected for Lafayette. I got a few good pics and some video.

To sum up: laziness, A.C., not bad movie, gorge fest on food of former World War II enemy nation, fireworks, possible lawsuit. Yay, America!

Hope all of you had a fun and safe holiday! Keep on, keepin' on!

Prudhomme City, Here They Come!

by CajunKate

So Ted and Molly and the tribe moved out to Prudhomme City. I posted quite a bit during the day on my Tumblr, so you can go there to get the lowdown and some pics. I can sum it up here: OH MY GOD, I AM GOING TO DIE OF HEAT EXHAUSTION!! Yeah. I'd say that pretty much sums it up. But I am so, so happy that Ted and fam are in Prudhomme and close to Mom and Dad. The boys and Mary Grace are going to have a blast growing up there. I did.

Oh, and here's some video footage Gabe took on my precious iPhone.

P.S. The boys looooooooooooove the iPhone, especially the video feature. And like any good princess, Mary Grace loves
looking at herself on the iPhone.
